Samantha Meredith, curator of the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society located inside the WISH Centre on King Street will be the guest speaker for Chatham Sunrise Rotary Club's Tuesday morning meeting on March 9, 7:30 via Zoom.
She will be talking to us about the 1934 Chatham Coloured All Stars Baseball team. They were the first black team to win an Ontario Baseball Association title. Did you know that Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins' father was on this team? Although playing for more than a decade before Jackie Robinson entered MLB, none of the Chatham All Stars would have the opportunity to play professionally.
