Guest Speaker: Jim Nash

John introduced our Guest today – Jim Nash for his Classification. John is proud to be Jim’s Sponsor, since his joining in April 2005.

Jim hails from Guelph, Ontario He’s fortunate to still have his parents still surviving. I believe his father is retired from policing or fire & his mother from secretarial work. He met his lovely Laurie at school at swim class and they’ve been married since 1982. Jim & Laurie have 3 children - Robbie, Kari & Kimmy.

Following Graduation from McMaster University he moved to Toronto for a commission sales in the insurance industry. He was awarded Top Salesman and was recruited into mgt. That meant another move to “Saskabush” and Kitchener.

Next step in the “Life of Jim”, brought in New Image Fitness, Guelph. Of course, that wasn’t enough & Jim moved on to another start-up – ELI Eco Logic out of Rockwood. About this time, Jim joined Rotary. He learned some awesome things - You don’t have to be retired to be a Rotarian, own a water buffalo hat, or have enough time on your hands to raffle off cars. He learned about the doers & the forkers and the vibrancy of a club that gets things done for its community, being heavily involved in projects for the Ronald McDonald House& Dragon Boat Racing.
Through all this, Jim was travelling, doing business & making friends the way that Jim does, in Japan, USA, Eastern Europe, China and Australia. Some life-changing events made him realize what he was missing back at home. Work was changing in a direction that he didn’t want to take. 1998, he exited. Next stop – Enviroshake. It started up thru one of his Rotary friends, a retired chemist who’d devised a way to make a shake out of plastic and other things that would be more resilient than the wood products. Moving thru a lot of red tape, government stuff, research, good times and tougher times, it was in 2001 that he partnered with Dan Warrener and other investors he represented. Hence here he is in Chatham. The business is still growing & looking forward to future success’. It’s been a vision of a dream that became a concept and then finally an actual operation.

Jim offered lots of tips from his life experiences. “You are the same person today, as you will be tomorrow except for the people that you meet and the books that you read”. It was a common theme through Jim’s message that we have many friends through Rotary – it’s all about partnership, involvement and exposure.

Jean Baker offered our Appreciation to Jim – He’s a doer, hearing of his success and enthusiastic experiences. Jim, we are proud to call you a fellow Rotarian, a friend and a member of Chatham Sunrise Rotary.
