Guest Speaker:   Veronica & Edwin Dam de Nogales

John Lawrence introduces Edwin and Veronica Dam de Nogales. They are professional artists who live in Highgate. Veronica is originally from Spain and that is where she met Edwin. John met both artists through his involvement with the Thames Institute for the Arts.

Edwin’s and Veronica’s focus is on gallery sculpture. Veronica described some of their works noting the various media that they use including metal, bronze and terra cotta. Most bronze sculptures are not solid bronze, as bronze can’t be poured more than 1” thick without creating deformities in the finished product.

They have been commissioned to create sculptures for the new U of T  building, a college in Boston and a university near St. Louis.

Prices for their work range from $300 to $250,000. The more expensive works are usually commission by public companies or organizations for public display.

The nearest bronze casting foundry is in Michigan, however, they prefer to use a foundry located in Ohio since the cost is less and the work is completed quicker.

Veronica studied fine arts in Spain. Edwin is a philosophy major and has learned his sculpting skills form Veronica.

Of particular local interest toward their sculpturing achievements, is a piece completed and in place at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance, Grand Avenue Campus, in honour and to the memory of George Morris. The late George Morris was a dedicated supporter of the local hospital system.

President Walter thank our guest speakers and presented them with a book on art that will be placed in the Chatham-Kent Public Library in their name.

President Walter brought the meeting a close at 8:35am.
