The past ten years of this
particular fund raiser have been an amazing journey and fantastic success story. In
2000 the Chatham Rotary Sunrise began a fund raiser called "Just
Because" under the direction of Paul Roy, who came up with the
original idea of selling roses at 20 dollars per dozen. That year with a lot of hard physical effort by the
members and volunteers doing preparation, sold 129 dozen roses,
falling just short of their 150 dozen goal. After just the first 6 years, $60,000.00
was realized and funneled back into community projects. By constantly making improvements in the methods of
packaging and streamlining the production lines, which has cut down
the workday time and even the costs involved in the project, the
selling price has been kept the same right up to this year. We hope
the community will continue to support this very worthwhile endeavor
for years to come while enjoying the beautiful roses that
brightening the day for every recipient of these gorgeous flowers.
