Children of Roatan

Through a $1500.00 donation to our club and an additional $1000.00 from our
club (which included a District Simplified Grant and a club donation) we
had a total of $2500.00!  for this project.  With these funds we purchased
2  new computer systems for the  E-Learning Centre in Honduras. This
learning centre is heavily used by children, youth and adults. This centre
is especially needed now in Honduras, as there are too few schools and many
youth leave due to the need to work or help at home.  The E-Learning
centres offer the flexibility they need, while helping them to upgrade
literacy and computer skills in order to access the better employment
opportunities on the island (mostly tourism related).

We purchased the systems directly from a company in Roatan called "Paradise
Computers" upon recommendation from the Roatan Children's Fund, the
computer store owner, Mitch Cummins is originally from the US and is an
active part of the local  education council.  Mitch generously comp'ed us
some items as well as staff time for set up.  Check out the pictures below!

Special Thanks needs to go to Polly Smith for her excitement about this
project and the donations she and her family had collected from others who
wanted to help those who are less fortunate that we.  Polly was
instrumental in gaining the contacts and the information needed to ensure
that the benefits of this project went to those intended.

Thank you for your support of this great cause and see how together we've
made a difference!  (from Polly Smith)
