 Happy Bucks:

Gord is happy because he leaves for Myrtle Beach soon!

John L had $5 worth of happy bucks

He thanked everyone for delivering his roses while he was in New York.

It was 80 degrees in New York and he was able to see some great shows.

He has tickets for "the Satiniques" a quartet from London who's music is the 50' & 60's music that is familiar to most. Saturday, April 24th at 7:00 PM (Tickets are $18.00 singles   OR   $35.00 for a pair).

He met a young man while he was getting his passport photos taken who was a rebounder – the young man wanted him to thank his fellow Rotarians for the many good things they do!

Mark congratulated Terra for a great job with the Roses!  He also was happy to attend the Food Show held last week at Ceasers Windsor – approximately 1400 restaurants attended!  He reminded everyone of the Media launch on Thursday for Ribfest and asked that all Rotarians where their yellow shirts from last year. It will be at the Armoury (11:30-1:30)

Jim S was happy to celebrate his father-in-law’s 100th birthday before Easter!

Jim N was happy that John S took the remaining roses to his store and was able to sell them all!

ROSES UPDATE

Terra congratulated the club on reaching our target of selling 1600 dozen roses! With some creative thinking in the afternoon the leftover roses all found homes. The final numbers are not in yet – if anyone has outstanding money please return it to Sheila or Terra.  It was suggested that next year we order more mixed roses as they seem to be more popular but it was noted that the red ones seem to last longer.

RIBFEST MEDIA LAUNCH

The media launch will be held on Thursday at the Chatham Armoury.  Please plan on attending and bring any prospective sponsors.  The doors will open at 11:30 with the program beginning at noon. Chicken and ribs will be served with Four Diamond Catering providing the side dishes.

There is a sign-up sheet for the May 5th GSE dinner.  If you are planning on attending please sign up as we will need the numbers for the caterer.  Everyone from all eight Canadian clubs will be there as well as the inbound and outbound Japan GSE teams. Click here to go to our "Special Events" then scroll down the GSE pages.

Laurie has secured one family for an inbound exchange student but we need two more families lined up before we commit to a student. Please spread the word.

Guest Speaker: - Jim Nash       "Reviewing Club Vision"

Today’s guest speaker was our very own Jim Nash. He revisited and reviewed the club vision that was created during a strategic planning session in 2008. He handed out his presentation for everyone to keep and review.

During the planning session it was concluded that our vision should include: literacy, promoting community to youth as a place to live and work, having a green community – health and wellness, health, youth, environment, social involvement.

Internationally the vision should include: completing hand on overseas projects, matching grant projects every year, being the top district club in youth exchange, shelter boxes, actively immersing inbound students, partnering in school programs, being a prominent GSE club.

Vocationally the vision should include: high school mentoring programs, business ethics speaker programs, sponsoring a student business program, double Interact, web based student volunteer program, reading week – every member, all schools, community based Rotaract, Books for Babies.

For the club the vision included: engaging weekly programs, annual recognition of community members, 80% attendance and participation, budget control, high community recognition, active Interact participation, fellowship exchange, Attract 1 new member per month, the best Mardi Gras party!

Jim spoke of the need for strong mentoring programs for new members to ensure they become actively involved in the club and to help with succession planning. He reminded the club of its desire for a signature event and emphasized the need for everyone to get on the bus and help out with all our fundraising endeavors. Share our enthusiasm with the community and don’t be afraid to take risks!

Thought of the Day:

“There are risks and costs to a program of action, but they are far less than the long range risks and costs of comfortable inaction.”

          John F. Kennedy
