_______________________________________________________________
The regularly
scheduled Tuesday morning meeting was cancelled in lieu
of the anticipated enormous amount of effort necessary
to pull off the Annual Roses for Rotary Day tomorrow,
Wednesday.
Even though
the Tuesday meeting was cancelled it was not a day
of rest either as a few of the more dedicated members
gathered at the Portuguese Hall to unload 1600 dozen
Roses from the truck, set up tables, fold information
sheets and generally prepare for the big workday.
The Wednesday
turn out was fantastic as members, registered "Friends
of Rotary", volunteers and even our District Governor -
Judy Garver stopped in to work side by side to process
19,200 roses by moisturizing, fabricating clear
cellophane bags, wrapping tissue paper, placing the
wrapped roses into the clear bags, attaching the
information sheets, tying the bundles, stacking the
bundles, counting and organizing the members orders,
loading the vehicles for delivery and finally getting
the flowers out to those people in the community who
supported this project. As the day continued, it also
took competent and diligent staff to co-ordinate the deliveries
and keep count of just what was going out as well as
managing the walk in pickups, keeping track of the
money at the door this list goes on and on. That was
just the Wednesday work day, as there is always an
enormous amount of effort to make this annual project
the success that it always is.
Thanks to the
Rose Committee, the volunteers, the Friends of Rotary
and the members for making this another fun and
successful event. Amazingly, every year it just gets
more efficient, more streamlined.
Here are just
a few photos from Tuesday the 6th of April and Wednesday
the 7th of April.
