Guest Speaker:     Brenda LeClair

Blake introduced our guest this morning, Brenda Leclair of Chatham’s Outreach for Hunger. She thanked the Club for our December donations, our help with the Business After Hours in honour of Heather Bondy.  We shall miss her smile & her joy.

Brenda began at the Centre 21 year ago & for a short expected period of time.  The Food bank is now a permanent fixture with last year seeing a 30% increase of users over the numbers in 2008.   More than half the clients are children. It saddens Brenda to see the numbers of children who don’t attend school because they have no food for lunches.

Brenda talked about her days at the Centre.   Most families are down to the last when they come to the Centre & most often in a position that they never thought they’d be in.    Brenda especially enjoys the December times when she sees the families receive a candy cane for the children or a can of shaving cream for the father.   It usually works out that donors will give what they’d like to receive, so it enables the Centre to do the same.

Fortunately the Foodbank is able to give food out according to Canada’s Food Guide & the volumes of donations allow the families to have some choices.

Brenda thanked us & Chatham Kent for reaching out, for continuing to help those who are struggling.

They are open for donations always – Monday to Friday, 8am to 3pm. Donations can be dropped off or mailed.  Grocery stores all have bins. And emergency personnel of the Fire Depts & police will always take donations.

Ivan thanked Brenda for her visit today.   We appreciate what Outreach for Hunger Centre & what Brenda does for this community.

Thought for the Day:

Thought of the Day

Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes and a new day arrives.
The important thing is to make it Meaningful – a meaning friend or a meaningful day.
