 Club Business:

Kimberly is looking for a ride to Michigan on the weekend, if anyone can assist.

Kimberly recently accomplished a huge feat.  Her fear of large animals was slightly overcome when Jackie was able to get her up & riding at TJ’s. Please remember Kim if you're planning a special event. She is now staying with Jackie and family.

Elections for the 2010 11 Board will begin next week, in Roger’s capable hands. Three spots will be vacant.  With Linda’s leave & Paula’s work schedule, it is planned that the newly elected Board Members (need 3) will begin immediately.  All members will be included on the ballot with the exception of Past Presidents.  Succession planning encourages a President-Elect to be in place 1-2 years ahead of his or her Year.

Reminder that we are hosting next week’s Business After Hours on Dec 9, 2009 at 62 Keil Drive, adjacent to Collins & Barrow offices. Ivan has secured the liquor licenses & is working on the bar supplies.  Thank you, Ivan!   We still need help with decorating (see Jean & or Sheila). Donations in kind or cash will be accepted for the Food Bank drive.

Dec 8 Meeting will go as scheduled at Smitty’s on Tuesday morning.

Guest Speakers  -  Paul Dixon & Doug Goldsmith from Crimestoppers:

John S introduced our Guests today – Paul Dixon, Police Coordinator for CK Crimestoppers.  Doug Goldsmith attended as well, as he is taking over Paul’s position in the New Year.

Crimestoppers began 25 years ago, & operates as a charitable organization – not run nor funded by the CK Police.  All they get from the police is “free rent & free gas in their vehicle.”   They have received Canadian & International recognition for their results.

Mission – to partner with the Media, the Police & the Public, to gain anonymous information for the Police to fight crime in Chatham-Kent & elsewhere.   You can reach them by phone, website & newly launched text messaging.  They offer confidential rewards & the chance to avoid the fear of revenge & reprisal.  It’s all about helping someone who needs help.

“Tips remain always anonymous & you won’t go to Court.”

In the last year, they’ve recovered $4M in property & drugs, from 850 tips.

They operate with 13 Board of Directors, 1 meeting a month & on donated time.   Funds are raised though events like raffles, chili cook offs, rodeos.  Without the help of the Board, Crime stoppers would be non-existent.

Greg thanked Paul & Doug for their visit today.  He learned a lot & so did we.  A book was signed for the Literary Angels gift to the Public Library.

By the way, they do have a 1500 pickup with a 22 ft trailer, for loan for the right occasion.

Thought of the Day:

“Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you also have an obligation to one.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                        Eleanor Roosevelt
