 Happy Bucks:

Linda had three Happy Bucks: On Friday she did a Rotary Bingo with Kim – who found the Canadian game a huge bore.  On Saturday she took Kim to the southern most point of Canada – Point Pelee.  On Sunday she and Kim went to a play in the States with their friend from Honduras.

Ivan is just back from his trip to San Francisco where he visited his daughter.

Audrey was in Minnesota for district training.

Doug visited UBC where his son attends.  He also visited the Kelowna Rotary club and presented us with a banner from them.

Doing a Make Up:

A club member must attend or make up at least 50 percent of regular club meetings in each half of the year (though
some clubs may have more stringent requirements). Any missed meetings must be made up within 14 days of a regular meeting.  If traveling, club members are encouraged to visit clubs in the new area to make up a missed meeting.  For further interesting information on make-ups click here to go to the Rotary International Website

Doug Swant and wife Joan recently visited the Kelowna Rotary Club where banners were exchanged with president Catherine Comben. Here is a little Kelowna Rotary info: The city of Kelowna has a population of 110 000 and has seven Rotary clubs. The Rotary Club of Kelowna was founded in 1928 and has 110 members. Their focus is youth, poverty and homelessness, seniors housing and various international projects. They own and operate an apartment complex for disadvantaged individuals. One of the polio projects, which they initiated is called  Peaks for Polio. It is a professionally led climbing expedition to Mount Aconcagu in 2010. It is the highest peak in the western hemisphere and straddles the Chile/Argentina border. They allow up to 20 climbers. The criteria includes raising
$50 000 in pledges per climber, yielding $ 1 000 000 per climb.

 50/50 Draw:

Emily Stirling drew her own ticket and won $10.

Club Business:

The annual banquet is on Wednesday.  Paul Roy has tickets.

Blake read a thank you note from Joe Russolo and Nicole D’Hondt from Employers Edge.

There will be a Bicycle River Ride meeting on Wednesday at 7:15pm

The first Mardi Gras meeting will be held next Monday (October 26).  The group will discuss a possible change in venue.

Banner Exchange:

John & Marion Collins from Queensland, Australia visited the club today.  John spoke briefly about where he is from near the Tropic of Capricorn.  John’s club, 9578 has approximately 28 members whose average age is roughly 50 but they are happy to report that they are beginning to attract younger members.  John’s wife, Marion, is a member of a women’s Rotary club that meets once a month.  John is very pleased to be welcomed by the Sunrise members and looks forward to reporting back to his home club as they are very interested to hear how Canadian clubs run.

John and his wife are from Rockhampton, Queensland Australia whose main economic drivers are mining (they export a lot of coal), beef (handle roughly 28 000 head per week), and grain/wheat.

John presented the club with a banner from his home club.  Blake reciprocated with a banner from the Sunrise club.

Guest Speakers - Matt and Emily Stirling

John introduced today’s guest speakers, Matt and Emily Stirling.  Both are master trainers at Performance Health and Fitness and Matt is John’s personal trainer as well as Emily’s.

Matt and Emily are certified personal trainers, movement trainer specialists, and nutritionists.

Matt’s love of body building began at the age of 14 when his Grandfather brought him a few magazines.  Emily was a competitive gymnast.  They are now both sponsored athletes who compete in body building competitions – Emily recently won the World Championship in Toronto.

They are beginning to work on body transformations – helping people to change the way they live by encouraging healthy eating and active lifestyles.  Anyone, any size, age, or gender can improve their overall fitness with a few lifestyle changes.
