Board of Directors’ reminder to meet following today’s Meeting for a “Conversation with DG Judy”.

Guest Speaker:-  District Governor Judy Garver:

Dave introduced our Speaker today, District Governor 2009 10 Judy Garver. Judy became a Rotarian in 1991 at the Auburn Hills Club.  She now belongs to the West Bloomfield Club, after serving many positions including 2 Presidencies & District Staff positions.   She has recently retired from CoMerica Bank.  She’s married to Hal Parrish & has 4 sons around the US.   She’s a multiple Paul Harris Fellow & a great Friend of Rotary.

Why I joined Rotary?

Judy was asked to consider Rotary several years ago.  She was impressed by the friendliness & the extent of Rotary background presented to her during the weekly programs.  She’s grateful that she was asked & grateful that she said yes.

What about Rotary International?

This year’s President is focusing on healthcare, fresh water efforts, literacy & the Polio Flight 2.   Notably Bill Gates’ 2nd Gift toward the Fight & Margaret Chen’s mention at WHO are predominates in the projects.

What does the District office staffs do?

They make no demands of the Club.  They are there to inspire, to motivate & to urge Rotarians to embrace the programs of Rotary.   They want Rotarians to be committed at their Club level.   This year, committees are in place to provide Peace Communities, Environment projects & the Rotary Leadership Institute (Our own Audrey Chevalier is Chair).

So what about the individual local Clubs? Where do they fit in?

With no local clubs, there would be no Shelter boxes, no Ambassadorial Scholars, no GSE team or leader experiences, no clean water projects, no mosquito screen projects…….Local level clubs make the Rotary International world go round.

Our Club chartered in 1998, March.   There have been countless lives changed, many friendships developed, many good meals shared.  The world is a better place because of Rotary.

Where do we go next?    We need to retain & grow our Membership.   We need to train our leaders well, to grow the Club’s plans.  We need to encourage our membership to attend & be involved in the District activities.   Make “Service Above Self” a core principle of our actions.

“The Future is in our Hands”

DG Judy left us with a theme banner for the 2009 10 Year.  PDG Audrey thanked Judy for her visit & her inspirational & motivational message.

Hummingbirds was signed & will be donated to the Public Library’ Literary Angels program.
