Paul Harris Fellows:
Bonny Pigeon and Kim Pierce |
|
Paul
Harris Fellows were
presented today. Bonny
Pigeon received her 2nd,
accepting a stone in her pin
from the Club in recognition
for her efforts in 2008 09
with Rotary. Bonny was one
of 4 recipients in Jim
Nash’s year where her work
was truly significant to
Jim’s success.

Linda
Goldsmith had made a
donation in honour of Kim
Pierce. Kim began Rotary as
a GSE & has certainly picked
up the theme and carried
on. Her enthusiasm, her
hard work & physical labour
makes her truly
demonstrative of the Rotary
“Service Above Self”. It
was an honour to see a Paul
Harris given to this truly
wonderful person.
Congratulations, Kim &
Bonny.
Kim was
also presented with her
Ambassador of Goodwill
recognition from the
District for her trip to the
Honduras & the water project
earlier this spring.

Guest Speaker: John
Dale |
|
Paula introduced our Guest
today, Joe Dale, a member of
the Whitby Rotary Club. Joe
has been working with
disabled individuals for
about 30 years now. He
brought with him Ron
Coristine of the local
Community Living & John
Gibbons, a local employer &
client of this project.
Joe’s Club works in
promoting
www.rotaryatwork.com in
his District, now joined by
our neighbouring
Windsor-Essex & Sault Ste
Marie.

These
individuals offer a vast
array of benefits to a
business – employee morale,
reduced absenteeism,
increased awareness of
safety, an increased
awareness of working with
disabled people as your
company’s customers. It
may not always be viable to
create a job for a
particular person but, when
it’s the right thing to do,
it certainly is proven that
it pays itself.
Positions do not have to be
fulltime & can be
flexible. Helping place
these people in our
community gives them a sense
of value and provides a way
for them to contribute to
their community too.

Please
consider this as an
opportunity to get a
competitive edge. Contac
the local project
coordinator. They will
assist with any
site-accommodations,
pre-screening & orientation
as well as on-the-job
startups. Consider hosting a
“Lunch & learn” with your
colleagues to perhaps open
some more doors & create a
lead.

Terra
thanked Joe for his message
today. Terra mentioned
that the Aktion Club brought
some of our hardest & most
dedicated workers to our
recent Ribfest.

sure to be out to help fill
out the Committee’s List
together. The Board of
Directors will meet on
Wednesday, July 29, Brown
Bag lunch at the Comfort
Inn.
Thought of the Day –
“Do not protect yourself by
a fence – but rather by your
Friends.”
