To work in the Beer Tent, you must have "Smart Serve"

Greg and Sheila have confirmed dates for Smart Serve Training as follows:

WHERE:           At The WISH Centre on King East, Chatham
WHEN:
             Wed June 10th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and Saturday June 13th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM
COST:               Approximately $21.50 per person (I will ask Tammy at The Wish Centre to confirm this today) - this is to be paid in advance by phoning Beth, leaving a message and a phone number and Beth will call back and get the credit card information so she can process it. Beth can be reached at 519-354-5172. Registrants must pay in advance.

OTHER:    Registration is limited to 15 (fifteen) people per class. The usual rate is about $35-40 so this is a good deal. If interest is high (which I hope it is!) we are working on a third session for the following Tuesday. Bring your spouses, children (over 18) and friends!  We’re going to need all the help we can get!

Guest Speaker: Lynn McGeachy

John Lawrence introduced our speaker today, Lynn McGeachy-Shultz.   Lynn is a family friend of the Lawrences, being in different roles around the community prior to her current position at the College.  She is to be credited for the foyer changes in the Entrance and most recently for the new student residence.

She told us of recent National champion teams in Mechatronics & Ladies Golf.  Excellent achievements for Chatham students!

They are currently in prep stage for expanding the Trades & Technology Department. There’s a 50% enrollment increase that they are unable to support to physically support.   Recently they have received a $4.4M grant & this work will begin immediately, ready for Fall 2010.

The residence has just completed its first year of occupancy, hosting 48 out-of-town students.   This site can easily be expanded to add another 72 rooms.  A college can't grow without a Residence.  And a college can’t attract students from outside the area without a Residence.

The lack of a HealthPlex is deemed a current detriment to the College.  There is no physical education space – no program with any phys ed component runs at the College.  Touring families ask to see space that doesn’t exist, where they’ve seen such facilities at other Colleges on their Campus Tours.   The College is planning & needs community support for such a HealthPlex – class rm space, a double gym, 5000 sq ft fitness facility & a walk/run track.  They are working on developing a partnership with the Diabetes organization as a partner with this track.    This complex will open possibilities for programs for paramedics, police foundations, ECE & PSW, & clinic rooms for the nursing programs. It should house the Golf Management program, currently without a home in the Campus. With 50/50 funding between the Grants & the community, the College has $2.25M now, hoping to begin work in the spring.

Fred proposed a funding partnership be developed with the Rotary Clubs in the Municipality.

Jim thanked Lynn & offered a Literary Angels book for her time spent with us.
