Roger’s just returned from 10 days in Japan – sounds like it wasn’t long enough! Tokyo, Colin’s former host families when he was there on Exchange, the bullet train to Osaka, Hiroshima, meeting the Downtown’s previous inbound exchange & several of Colin’s friends,– what a really small world we live in

 

Blake’s happy to be with us, bad hair cut & all.  And he looks forward to his upcoming year.   He’s beginning his Committee work & welcomes Roger as Sergeant-at-arms.

 

 

Heather’s looking forward to Wednesday when she’s to sign off on a business they’ve had for 33 years – now off to points unknown, she says!

 

 

Jim N is happy to be back from 4 days of feeding the black flies up north – even the bears said Thanks! as he left

  • June 23 will be our Official Year-end as Jim passes the Bell & Gavel to Blake.  Please plan to attend.

 

Club Business:

1.   Finances were circulated for review. Funds have been transferred for necessary deposits for event commitments.     Jim read a Dues’ review for those newer to the Club.

2.   The Women’s Centre has sent a Note of Appreciation for their roses recently received.

 
Club Assembly Reports:


Club Assembly Reports:

  1. Environment group has recently finished some landscaping upkeep along Grand Ave.  $500.   This same group is working on plans for a Bike to the Park for July 5.
  2. Rotary Ride Round the River.   If you don’t ride a bicycle, then you are still very welcome to help with Registration that morning. Union Gas parking lot, 8:30am
  3. Program Committee – Chair Paula is needed a replacement as her work commitments are not going to allow her time to continue past August. It’s about a 1 hour commitment, each week, contacting speakers with the details of the Meeting.
  4. Group Study Exchange – Kim tells us that the outbound to Japan in the fall is well underway in their plans..  Next spring’s Inbound will need a Chair.
  5. Our inbound student from Thailand arrives in August, staying with the Goldsmiths. A counselor has been found & Linda now needs 2 more host families. We do have 2 outbound students now, in Brazil & in Japan.
  6. Bingo with Jackie – Next date is June 6, 9:30pm & at midnight – See Aaron if you’d like to help out with Doug too.  Counts for 5 makeups’!!!

Ribfest update – 38 days to go!

  • Employers Edge has come forward, offering to organize activities for the Friday Afternoon Corporate Party
  • Tammy’s working the Kids Zone
  • A great reception was had during Retrofest with Greg, Bonny & a guy named….?  Lots of T-shirts passed out.
  • Looks like some of those old cars will return for a display on the Sunday and even some motorcycles on Saturday!
  • Official numbers given for our licensed areas – 2 spaces for 3500 & 3000.
  • Please use www.chathamribfest.com when talking up to your friends, relatives, co-workers.   We will need “all hands on board” for Saturday’s beet Tent especially.  Tell your friends to register there.   But there are other jobs – Kids zone, set up & take down, you name it, you’ll see it.  Use the Volunteer icon & send Terra your name & details. 

The following is very important and cannot be stressed enough.     Time is getting short!

  • To work in the Beer Tent, you must have "Smart Serve"   
  • You can get it at      http://smartserve.org/products_training_online.asp
  • Don't delay, as it takes time to do the program and process the results to obtain your "Smart Serve Card"
  • It's time to sign up for Ribfest - there are open spots in every area.  Be sure to get where you want to be!

Final item for discussion.  The Club has been approached by the YMCA with a Naming Opportunity in the plans for the new YMCA.   $50,000 over a 5 year period.  Areas designated --- such as the pool viewing area & meeting space.

Noted during discussion that

  • we do have another $6000 for the Babies & Books program. 
  • we need to bring out our Strategic Direction & ensure that our commitments follow those laid out.  
  • the speaker next week is Lynn McGeachy with St Clair College & their growth plans.  
  • we recently heard Dan Donaldson with our Capitol Theatre.
  • we need to get past Ribfest & the future that it holds for us.

The Board will continue these discussions and we will listen to St Clair’s plans next week.

 

Rotary River Ride:
 

Third Annual Rotary River Ride

 Sunday,  June 14, 2009

Registration 8:30am - 9:00am  -   Ride starts at 9:30 am 

Proceeds support Eradicate polio worldwide.
Currently there are only 4 endemic countries remaining in the world:
Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Nigeria (P.A.I.N.). 

 Proceeds go directly to the polio vaccine.
 

From 50 Keil Drive N (Union Gas Head Office) west on Riverview Drive to Prairie Siding bridge and back on Grande River Line. 21 kms of great riding!

         Preview two great new bikeway developments coming in Chatham-Kent:

            1)  The proposed Tecumseh Parkway historical route
            2)  Maps of the bikeway network to be built throughout Chatham- Kent will be on displa
