Sunrise
provided funding to the
Chatham Girls Ringette Team
and their coach, Rotarian
Stephen Hook, who is
currently on LOA from
Sunrise sent some photos of
the girls. Note the Rotary
crest on the shoulder of the
jerseys. These pictures
where taken at a game played
in Waterloo. This is an
example of our club
supporting youth in our
community.
They say
"Thank You Chatham Sunrise

Guest Speaker:
Past District Governor
Audrey Chevalier |
|
Jim introduced our presenter
of Rotary 101 today – our
Past District Governor
Audrey who holds lots of
experience with Rotary. Jim
Steele & Audrey had prepared
a slide presentation of the
many large & small details
of Rotary International, our
own Chatham Sunrise Club &
what it means to be a
Rotarian.
-
Rotary is the world’s
first Service Club, with
the 1st

-

1 reason to belong, said
over 95% of the
membership.
-
Our Motto – Service
Above Self
-
The Four Way test - a
guide for personal &
business decisions
Rotary
International has a
President each year, where
that person selects a theme
& goals that lend to the
plans & goals of each Club
President. This year’s theme
is Make Dreams Real, a
mother cradling her child.
This reflects Rotary’s
efforts in literacy &
healthy children around the
world.
Those
efforts around the world are
aided by funds from the
Rotary Foundation which
accepts donations from
various sources – members,
Paul Harris Fellows,
Sustaining Members &
Benefactors. Outside donors
have most recently been the
Bill Gates Foundation for
$255M grant towards the End
Polio Now campaign.
Audrey
briefly mentioned the other
programs that Rotary
supports like Group
Exchange, RYLA, Rotary
Fellowships, Interact, etc.
She introduced the current
Board of Directors & talked
briefly about the Committee
structure. She does have a
lending library of a couple
of great Rotary books, if
anyone’s interested.
You can
read more details of these
on our website
www.rotarysunrise.com
Jim
thanked Audrey for her time
spent in offering today’s
knowledge. It was a great
refresher & an interesting
teaching tool, that
hopefully we can carry
forward with all new
members. Jim had
circulated a spreadsheet of
our Club’s donations since
we were chartered in 1998.
$265,000 has been raised for
our efforts in Service Above
Self in Chatham Kent &
beyond. |
