– a wonderful opportunity for our youth – 5 applicants will be selected

 

Jean leaves Saturday for a cruise – she’s looking forward to a zip line ride through the rainforest

John presented a banner from his host club, Francistown, north of South Africa. He is a traveling missionary, visiting family in Chatham. Welcome, John!
 

 

 

 Club Business:

• Mark your calendar for our Rotary Christmas Social at the Nash’s’ Jan 10 2009
• Keith Koke is interested in hearing from any Sunrisers who wish to help with the Good fellow’s Porch Light campaign.
• DG Dave McGuire mentions Interact Day plans are set for Jan 31 2009. Drivers will be needed to help get the CKSS kids there.
• Board meets Wednesday, Comfort Inn, 7:30am.

Friends of Rotary letters will be mailed this week.
Sunriser website has been refreshed. Please review & forward your comments. It would be appreciated. Feel free to recommend the site to those interested in being a Member. It’s a great summary of our achievements.

Recruitment report: (Blake):
We’ve welcomed Nicole & Greg with Mark & Matt in the wings. One away from our target “5 new members by Christmas”.

Program Committee: (Paula):
Dates are filling up. Close to Jan 20 now. Send her your dates if you have a project underway or send her your contacts if you know a potential speaker.
Dec 23 will be our Festive Christmas event.

Financials: (Jackie):
Circulated on the tables, Jackie reviewed current statement.
General & Service accounts explained by Bonny.
Payment of member dues would be appreciated. There’s $2500 in o/s accounts now.
Board to clarify that we are spending the appropriate % of funds, according to receiptable giving & income.

Funding requests:
1. Paul Pomajba spoke for a few minutes, as Public Relations for the Chatham Ringette Association. Requesting $700 this year. Involves our insignia on their website, Erickson Bulletin Board, sponsors’ mention in newspaper score. 196 players, ages 3-18 yrs. Forwarded to Board for approval.
2. Greg Kett volunteers at Riverview Gardens with a horticultural project. From May 15 – Oct 15, they have outside raised beds (handi-accessible) for residents to grow flowers & vegetables. They wish to increase to 4 beds, total project $500. Materials included although volunteers to assemble the boxes would be appreciated. Forwarded to Board for approval.
3. Make-A-Wish has contacted Paula to see if we wish to do a sponsorship. Forwarded to Board for approval.


Elections for Board 2009 10:
Four names to be selected on the ballot. Roger will contact those not present today.

Grants’ news: (Bonny):
Received $1000 for Babies & Books through Rotary Simplified Grant.
Applying for $5000 from Community Partnerships, Municipality of Chatham-Kent for Rib-Fest first time startup event.
Two others underway, also for the Rib-Fest.

Rotary Sunrise Roses:
Cheque presentation, $325 from the nurseries who are wholesaling the plants.

Interact News (Aaron):
They’ve just finished Operation Christmas Child. Looking for a replacement teacher for Jen as she leaves for maternity leave. Need to mention Rib-Fest idea to the Club for their involvement & opportunity for membership.

Roses for Rotary (Terra):
Contact has been made with the grower. Details TBA yet, as their operation & supplier has changed again.

Mardi Gras (Doug):
Friday, February 20 2009 Dinner & Auction at Aristo's.
Collection of items is underway under John L & Doug will be storing them.
Ivan’s organizing the music.

Ribfest (Steering Committee):
July 3,4,5 Friday, Saturday & Sunday
Harry & Mark are on the site plan.
Paul needs a partner for advertising
Rick’s organizing Classic Cars for a Sunday show
Greg K’s doing the beer tent.
Need a scheduler, a press person.

As all members are aware, BINGO's are one of our best fund raisers and we need members to help out. The fellowship is a wonderful added bonus.  Please do your part to help by volunteering yourself during one or more of the following time frames.
