The principles, responsibilities and obligations of Rotary have been explained to you, and you have expressed your willingness to become a Rotarian.  No one is eligible to become a Rotarian unless, in his business or professional life, he /she endeavors to practice the principles of goodwill and service.

The members of this club have invited you to join them because they believe you are already actuated by these motives.  In electing you to membership, we are doing more than taking you into our fellowship.  We are making you a trustee with us of Rotary’s ideals.  Knowing you to be a Rotarian, the world will henceforth judge Rotary by your conduct.

Congratulations Greg and Nicole and welcome to Sunrise Rotary!

PROGRAM TODAY - continued "Visioning Session"

Continued discussion from the Directional Statements that we achieved a couple weeks ago.

Themes of the Youth, Environment, Literacy, Health in our community.

That leads us next in the direction of fundraising & recruiting.

Membership Chair Blake spoke for a few moments, reiterating from an earlier email, the importance of our membership.  Target from the Visioning Sessions earlier in the year is to reach 50 members, 5 years from now.

We are currently at 29 active members & 3 on leave of absence (Dave VK, Harry Verhey & Stephen Hook).

Retention was also discussed, as equally important to our numbers.

DIRECTION:

We will grow to 50 active members over the next 5 years.

We will continue to engage in the retention of our members.

A Friends of Rotary group will be created.

DIRECTION:
We will continue the fundraisers that have been established.

  • Mardi Gras party & auction
  • Roses for Rotary campaign
  • Bingos

We will select a Signature Fund raising event.  Ribfest is first on that list, with the expertise of the Jenkins who have indicated interest in becoming members with us.

____________________________________________________

Following the meeting, Matt forwarded some information to be circulated for our Membership.  Please take a few moments & look at our involvements.  Dates, place, etc have not at all been finalized.

Take a look at the Jenkins’ website www.blazinbbq.ca. There are also many other Rotary Ribfest sites that will offer general knowledge of Ribfests. The easiest way is to Google Rotary Ribfest.

Matt has shared a Task List with the Board.  We look forward to planning to start right away.  The Jenkins have contacts with Burlington Rotary members who’ve offered to come to see us as well.
