It was a
beautiful sunny evening at
T.J. Stables. The
temperature was perfect and
everyone enjoyed the potluck
dinner of chicken, salads
and of course deserts.

Jackie
Bray introduced Terry
Jenkins owner of TJ Stables.
TJ stables has become
Jackie’s second home. She
rides 5 times a week and
boards her horse at TJ’s.
She says Terry has a lot of
stories.
Terry
bought the 40 acre farm from
her mother 23 years ago. The
farm was originally a sod
farm and part of her dad’s
-Ernie Jenkins’s business.
Six weeks
after she bought the farm,
the barn burnt at night and
she lost all her equipment
and some horses. The
neighbours were at her house
the next morning and by 5 pm
the next day the site was
cleared and fresh hay and
straw brought in.
Terry
learned the true meaning of
community and people helping
others. A new barn was built
within 3 months with
volunteer help from various
people in Chatham-Kent.
Terry
started the "Acceptional
Riders Program" 16 years
ago. This program helps
children and adults with
disabilities. These people
gain confidence through
their relationship with the
horses, volunteers and staff
at TJ stables. Terry shared
many stories that were
”Chicken Soup for the Soul
“about the challenges and
success of the children and
adults that have been part
of the program.
Terry and
her staff demonstrated the
art of horse whispering and
drew analogies of how the
technique helps the
children.
John
and Terry have recently
added even more to their
already fantastic
facilities. They gave us a
tour of the brand new dog
kennel area, which will
board several dogs. As well
there will be an area
designated specifically for off leash walking,
which will be a wonderful setting
for the animals to run and
for humans to enjoy the
tranquillity. A first class idea
too!

Myles
Koke an "Acceptional Rider"
talked about his horse
Cherokee and demonstrated
his riding ability.

The night
ended with our own Jackie
Bray parading her horse,
carrying the Canadian flag
as the group concluded with
the national anthem. A very
inspirational night that
would make any member proud
to be a Rotarian.

Keith
Hindmarsh thanked Terry
presented a book entitled
Horses in her name.

Thanks to
Jackie Bray for arranging
this great evening.
