Duck/Fishing tickets are now available for club members to sell.

The early bird draw is September 23, with the final draw October 21.

Quack, Quack!! Let’s sell those tickets to raise money for the club.

Max Howell was admitted to the hospital last night. Club members are thinking of Max and Ruth during this time and wish him well.     UPDATE from Steve S. - Max is in isolation temporarily until he builds up some immunity, which appears to happening quickly. Max and Ruth pass there thanks back to all who are expressing concern and prayers. Max appears to be improving and getting stronger. We will look forward to seeing both Max and Ruth back at the Sunrise meeting in the near future, if even for a short visit at first.

Guest Speaker - Polly Smith "Children of Honduras"

Children of Honduras “ An Accidental Journey”

Bonny Pigeon introduced Polly Smith the guest speaker.

Polly Smith presented slides & highlights of the trip to Honduras and the island of Roatan.

The trip to Roatan originally started as a scuba diving vacation for 22 individuals.

The trip took on an additional purpose after Polly’s son watched  the Oprah Winfrey Show. The 22 scuba divers decided to give something back to the community they were visiting- thus the Accidental Journey.

Polly googled Roatan and found a link to the Roatan Children’s Fund. The link provided a contact and that enabled the group to understand some of the basic needs that existed at the orphanage.

Roatan is beautiful island but very impoverished. The island is isolated, mountainous, and has a small population that is spread throughout. The education system is very basic and most children do not go beyond grade 6.

The coordinated group effort took 100 pounds of school supplies and raised $1500 that was donated to the Mayken Broby Children’s Home.

Polly has continued to maintain contact with the individual and plans are underway for a further donation of $2500 to further upgrade computers.

A Rotary donation of $500 will be provided under a basic grant for their next trip.

It was a very inspiring presentation of how one small group can make a difference in the world.

Blake Vince thanked Polly and presented a book entitled “The Caribbean” to be donated to the library system in recognition of Polly Smith.
