We’re pleased to have DG Stan with us today to welcome Aaron Goodchild as our newest member.   Aaron was inducted by Stan & pinned by his father, John who belongs to the Dresden Rotary Club. Bonny is Aaron’s sponsor. Welcome to the world of Rotary, Aaron & we wish you the best on your journey.

Paul Harris Presentation to Terra Kitzul:

DG Stan also assisted with the presentation of a Paul Harris Award to Terra Kitzul.  It is an honour as Stan holds the Foundation near & dear.   “We may never see the tree or enjoy it’s shade that Rotary helped with, or know about a child’s surgery or how the business that a $100 loan got started. But we’ll know that it’s the work of the Foundation.”

Congratulations, Terra & thank you for all your efforts.

District Governor Stan Sherman Visits Chatham Sunrise:

ADG Dave McGuire stood to introduce Stan today.

Stanley Sherman served as Royal Oak’s Club President in 1971-72 and currently mentors STRIVE students in the Royal Oak Schools.  He has served on almost every committee of his Club and was Co-Chair for the District for Polio Eradication.

Stan was employed for over 30 years at the Daily Tribune in Oakland County, many as its’ business manager and assistant treasurer.  He has also been the owner of a sheet metal fabrication shop in Livonia.  After the sale of his business, he joined Berridge & Morrison Commercial Real Estate as a Sales Associate where is currently employed.

Stan served over 20 years as a member of the Board of Directors of National Bank of Royal Oak (now Citizens Bank) In 2005 he was awarded the City of Royal Oak’s Distinguished Citizen of the Year.  He has also been honored by the Royal Oak Historical Society with the Dr. Joseph S. Morrison Award, named for a person helping to preserve Royal Oak’s past and shaping its’ future.

Stan and Serena Sherman have been married since 1971 (not just because the Royal Oak Rotary Club told him there had been no single Presidents in their history).  Stan and Serena enjoy traveling, especially with Rotary and taking care of their five-year-old Lab.  Stan’s hobbies are hunting, fishing, golf, walking and history.

Welcome our 2008-2009 District Governor ---- Stanley Sherman!

Stan shared the message of RI President DK Lee where Rotary is all about Making Dreams Real.  The new image is of a mother, cradling her child.   Pres Lee is focusing on the fact that 30,000 children die every day form preventable diseases.  What can Rotary do?

He reminds us of important dates in his year:

September Membership Seminar, led by PDG Gerry Jackson

November’s Foundation Gala, November 13

District Conference in Frankenmouth MI, May 1,2,3   2009

DG Stan offered his appreciation of the warm welcome, the kindness & the hospitality that he enjoys every time that hs visits Canada.

A history book of Canada will be presented to the Literary Angels program, in honour of Stan’s visit today.
